Individual Therapy

Therapy can be truly life changing. Unfortunately, the majority of people suffering from an anxiety disorder, and many other mental health disorders for that matter, do not seek counseling and continue to suffer. Fortunately, there is a better way.

Research shows time and time again that the vast majority of people can benefit from psychotherapy. In fact, behavioral treatment, with or without the use of medication, has longer lasting results than treatment with medication alone.

Individual therapy for OCD and anxiety disorders, including Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors, begins with an initial assessment session to get to know one another and evaluate how the therapist can help the client reach their clinical goals. This meeting can be face-to-face in an office setting, or online with teletherapy.

As a licensed therapist in California and Montana, I offer individual, group, online, and intensive treatment. Additionally, current laws permit me to work with people internationally in nearly every country as well as select US states on a short-term basis.

I offer individual sessions for:

  • Adolescent psychotherapy
  • Adults psychotherapy
  • Consultation and Family support

Following empirical evidence, I use the “gold standard” of behavioral treatment for OCD and anxiety spectrum disorders. This gold standard includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a psychotherapeutic framework that teaches people alternative and balanced interpretations of thoughts and feelings, leading to more rational and desired responses. In other words, thinking differently about thoughts and feelings leads to responding differently.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure therapy is used to help anxiety sufferers overcome their fears by facing them head on.  Through repeated exposure exercises, clients learn and develop a new relationship with their fears that includes reduced anxiety, a more balanced understanding of risk and danger, and confidence to handle whatever life brings.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT, along with other mindfulness-based techniques, can help clients learn that they are more than their anxiety and unwanted thoughts or behaviors. More to the point, you are not your thoughts and feelings. Furthermore, ACT techniques help the client clarify who they really are, remain grounded in reality, and pursue what they want in life despite the distraction of unwanted thoughts, feelings, and urges.

Consultation And Family Support

In addition to individual psychotherapy, I offer in-office or online consultation for individuals and families. Consultation sessions differ from psychotherapy. These sessions are structured to help families and loved-ones learn about anxiety spectrum disorders, OCD, BFRBs, and treatment while gaining tangible tools to further their support.

  • Hi,
Thank you so much for the resources on this website, I have found them quite helpful. I have Real Event OCD (I think) and have been dealing with debilitating guilt surrounding one theme for a little over three years now. I was wondering approx. how much individual therapy sessions are with calocd. I do not have insurance that I can use for therapy at this time.
    Warmly, Mac
